Off-the-Wall Interview Questions

What are Madonna and a Big Mac doing in an interview? Effective Interviewing!® seminar participants continually recount off-the-wall questions that they hear in interviews. Here are two examples: "If you could be any part of a Big Mac hamburger, what would it be?" or "Imagine you are the host in your hometown assigned to take Madonna on an 8-hour tour of the city. Where would you take her and what would you do?"

There are no "right" answers to these questions, and their use is questionable at best. Our concern is the candidate who doesn't get a job and then files a suit citing these questions as evidence of how he or she was treated. Our advice is to keep your questions job-related, thereby avoiding useless questions in your interviews and needless risk for your company.
