Reference Checks - Think Twice

One of the many interesting issues that came out of the ClarenceThomas confirmation hearings was the sad reality of how difficult it is for those employers to conduct accurate reference checks.
The Charlotte Observer received a positive job recommendation from Clarence Thomas about Angela Wright even though he had fired her for incompetence at EEOC. Mr. Thomas said, she "resigned and had been an excellent employee."
We continue to believe that reference checks are never an alternative to thorough, in-depth assessment interviews.
