Three Factors Contribute to the Glass Ceiling
"The Glass Ceiling Initiative," a study done by the U.S. Department of Labor, found that there are three significant factors contributing to the glass ceiling in American corporations. Here are some warning signals that trigger the glass ceiling effect:
1. Recruitment practices rely on "good ol' boy" word-of-mouth and employee referral networking.
2. Line management assignments and advanced education opportunities are not as available to minorities and women as to white male managers.
3. Accountability for Equal Employment Opportunity responsibilities does not reach to senior-level executives and corporate decision makers.
